  • BUG: Mdd not loading into Houdini with FBX

    Hi,

Speedtree 6.1.3, Linux 64 bit loading into Houdini 12.0.640

I can't get an FBX and MDD to load in correctly. The MDD has the same number of points as the FBX geometry but as you can see from the screenshot, the tree is wrong i.e. distorted.

Smaller problem, the Y Up option doesn't seem to work with MDD either though I can easily live with that if the MDD worked.

Thoughts? I really need the animation from the wind working

Attached is the Speedtree scene I'm using to test but this is just the BroadLeaf High Detail that ships with ST modified slightly.

    Cheers,

    Peter B

FBX + MC does work thankfully, though there is a bug in there too, whereby I have to unlock the File CHOP for things to work. I suspect a Houdini bug on that one though.

MDD is mostly just for apps that don't support the FBX vertex cache formats, such as Cinema 4D before we had a native exporter.Houdini can handle MC just fine, and the OTL should handle hooking it up. Dunno why Houdini doesn't like the MDD, but I have seen some apps use different numbering (where 0 is the first or 1 is the first), so maybe that is the problem.

        Hi Greg,

Actually, the MC is super slow in Houdini I've now waited 20 minutes to import a 10 seconds of anim. Also it appears that it loads the whole thing into RAM which obviously will be an issue when we have 50+ trees in a scene. There are workarounds of course, we can write our own MDD back out per tree after loading in the MC but it'd be handy if it just worked

        Cheers,

        Peter B
