  • Speedtree import into maya convert to copies.

    Hi

Is it possible using the maya python api to convert the all the speedtree instances to copies when it has been exported from speedtree.
Currently it looks like you have encapsulated all particle information inside your special importer.

Is there a way of accessing this information.

In step for I want to do the following:

    -export tree layout from speedtree
    -import tree layout into maya.
    -convert all instances to copies.

    Is this at all possible?

I don't see why not. That process doesn't really have anything to do with SpeedTree, just maya scripting. You could probably modify the SWA importer code itself to make copies instead of instances, too.

However, be prepared to use a whole lot more memory to hold everything if you have more than a couple trees in a scene.

That was the approach I was going to take, just wanted to make sure. We will still hold on to the instances the copies are just for a test scene that requires no instances.

      Thanks.
