  • Speedtree Grass in Unity, painted on meshes?

Our game doesn't use Unity terrain. We use speedtrees for our trees and bushes and works out well. For grass however, as the density is much higher than trees (we are a top-down game) I'm wondering if it is performant to place several grass objects on mehses in the same way that you can paint them on the Unity terrain, or if it batches them differently etc.

Advanced Foliage Shader does this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUzFSzw-_Vg and everything is batched hither it's on terrain or on mesh.

I would rather just use speedtree for everything if that's a possibility.

    Thanks

    Hello,

You can use individual gameobject trees for the grass, but you are right in thinking that the rendering on the terrain would most likely be faster, especially at that density.

I have logged to look into a better solution for high density but not on terrain.
