  • FBX importer for vray is not working...

    I'm trying to import a model I made into maya. I load the FBX plugin but I get this error message:

    Code:
    file -import -type "SpeedTree FBX for V-Ray" -gr  -ignoreVersion -ra true -rdn -mergeNamespacesOnClash true -namespace ":"  -pr "C:/Users/erichards/Desktop/PalmTree/Palm_High_v01.fbx";
    // File read in  0.0035 seconds. //
    // Result: C:/Users/erichards/Desktop/PalmTree/Palm_High_v01.fbx //
    # Error: RuntimeError: file <string> line 2: line 1: Invalid file type specified: FBX
    RuntimeError: file C:/Users/erichards/Documents/maya/scripts/SpeedTree FBX Importers.py line 773: Error occurred during execution of MEL script
    line 1: Invalid file type specified: FBX #
    I'm using maya 2016 SP3 and vray 3.3

    What does that mean? I can import regular FBX files, just not one using the FBX for VRAY plugin you include with speedtree.

    Please advise.
    Thanks!

    Hey there,

    Did you export the tree from SpeedTree with the Maya - VRay preset? Also, I have found Maya is kind of fickle with file paths and names with underscores. Maybe remove the underscores from the file name and see if that fixes it?

    Hope this helps.

      I did export from maya with the SpeedTree Maya - Vray preset.
      I'll see if removing the underscores helps.
      Thank
