  • Modeling a Tree in another program to bring into speedtree

I am a very new user to speedtree. I modeled a whole trunk and branches of a really complex tree in another program and was wondering if it was possible to use speedtree to add the leaves and such to the tree. Does speedtree have any way of detecting or letting me tell what pieces of my own model are branches and such to add leaves to? That would be really nice. Thank you for the help!

Hi Cowcite; if you attach nulls or cubes to where you'd like branches and/or leaves to attach to your tree, label them "anchor", and then export your mesh and anchors as an FBX, When imported, SpeedTree should recognize the anchors as points to attach generators like branches and leaves.

To better understand the distribution of leaves, this page on phyllotaxy provides visuals for the different patterns of distribution.

Hope this helps, let us know if you have any other questions!
